Joan Harris-Ternovan
Joan Harris-Ternovan, The Art of Wellness
Joan was first introduced to Tai Chi in 1990 at Maryland Hall. During a one hour workshop on the 8 Therapies led by Carol McGonegal, Joan fell in love with the gentle movements, internal centering and feeling of peace. She has continued her own growth in the Art of Tai Chi under the following masters and disciples of Cheng Man Ch’ing: Benjamin Lo and Maggie Newman, both senior student of Professor Cheng Man Ch’ing. She also studied with Carol McGonegal, Lenzie Williams, Wiliam CC Chen and Wei Ming. In 2008, Joan was given permission by elders to teach. She is grateful to carry on the Professor’s goal of introducing Tai Chi, “The Pearl of the Eastern Culture” to the West.
At Maryland Hall, Joan offers Tai Chi for beginners and experienced students keeping the ancient practice accessible to all who will benefit from it.
Joan says: What I am impressed by most is the sense of community within Maryland Hall. It’s more than teacher – Student or Teacher – Teacher relationships. Being part of Maryland Hall is being part of a creative sharing community. It doesn’t end when the class ends. The people, smiles, creativity, and experiences become a part of me.
