Dykstra has been a Visual Arts Educator for 23 years.  She has taught Middle and High School in Anne Arundel and Baltimore County Public Schools.  Dykstra has been a member of the Maryland Art Education Association during her career as a teacher.  She has experience in curriculum writing, professional development and teacher support. Currently she serves as the President of the Maryland Art Education Association and is the past Middle Level Division Director and State Awards Chairman. She also earned her National Board Certification in 2009.  In 2013, Dykstra was the recipient of the National Art Education Association, Maryland Art Educator of the year. 

In 2008, she received the Eastern Region Middle Level Teacher of the Year Award and was nominated for teacher of year in Anne Arundel County Public Schools. She has presented at the local, state and national levels.  Dykstra earned her BS from St. Mary’s College of Maryland and obtained her Master’s Degree from Johns Hopkins University in Curriculum and Instruction. She is currently Coordinator of Visual Arts with Anne Arundel County Public Schools.

Dykstra’s parents immigrated to the United States from the island of Cyprus. She was born and raised in Anne Arundel County.  Dykstra was a student at Germantown Elementary, Bates Junior High and is a graduate of Annapolis High School.  She currently resides in Severna Park with her husband Jason, son A.J, daughter Rene and their cat Beau.
